Now full disclosure here: I am not good at puzzles and I typically will give up after a few tries if I can’t get the puzzle figured out. The difficulty of the game comes with the various types of puzzles that are in place to allow Iris to move through the world. The game-play is fairly easy to pick up and has very few requirements in terms of controls, making the game easy to pick up for people who are not used to playing games. All of these elements come together in a game that, with very little dialogue, tells a clear and concise story that isn’t overburdened by cut-scenes and allows the player to become completely enveloped in the story. Visually, the game reminded me of a Japanese horror film, mixed with reminiscences of Resident Evil monsters and a haunting soundtrack, like that in Silent Hill, that gave me chills. In a world that is full of the creepy dolls, scary landscapes, and ominous omens abound, Iris (and the player), must work her way through various challenging puzzles in order to find her way back to “normal” life and reality. Realm follows the story of Iris who finds herself in a waking nightmare. But my favorite parts of PAX are the wonderful Indie games that are out there and available to play, like the one that I found from Authentic Illusions, Arbor Sheep, and Games Starter: Realm Walk of Soul. But if Iris is hit by something, you will regret about it.PAX East brings the big name for games to showcase the recently released, upcoming, and works in development. Dove: Increases movement when you run and how high Iris can jump.Water Strider: Iris can walk over the water and swim under it.But your movement will be slow like an old machine. Automaton Blade: If you are in danger or an obstacle, Iris can unleash the power of the blade to destroy it.Thorn: It can hide Iris from enemies but it won't let you move nor jump.Crow: The power to return to the nexus, no matter how far you are or if you are stuck in trap room.What are her true intentions? Iris will have to find out. She sends Iris to look for the 'effects.' The Shadow is a mysterious entity that looks interested in helping Iris, or at least is the only one that has told her something about this place. She likes what she has read about the world, but she doesn't dare to face the world around her. or eating.ĭespite the fact that she doesn't pay much attention to classes in school, she loves to read and seeks interesting subjects for she has learned that by having something in her mind before sleeping, her dreams are about that. For this very reason, she sleeps a lot, leaving aside important activities such as doing her homework. She escapes reality often mainly by dreaming.

She's shy, timid, quiet, introvert and not very social. Iris realizes that to know more of this world, she'll have to find the 'effects' the shadow was talking about. After touching one, she is transported to a new world, radically different from the one she was in. On her way out, Iris sees strange portals hanging from the tree. It tells her to find the 'effects' hidden in the world. Inside she finds a being like her, but like a shadow. By doing so, Iris discovers that she has woken in a strange place, isolated, with only one tree, her house and a house very similar to hers.

Yet, something feels out of place, and she feels the need to get out of home. REalM presents us Iris, a 17 year old girl who, after a harsh sensation of falling in her dreams, wakes up in her room.

REalM is a 2D puzzle game with horror elements, where you'll need to find 'effects' or powers to access new areas in the open, nightmare world you'll find.
